LORD   CREATOR

REAL NAME: Kenrick Patrick
DATE OF BIRTH: August 21, 1935
PLACE OF BIRTH: ..., Trinidad
EDUCATION: (later)
CAREER:                                   Creator first sang in calypso tents alongside calypsonians such as Lord Kitchener and The Mighty Sparrow and recorded several songs with the Fitz-Vaughn Bryan orchestra. While on a Caribbean tour with a group of musicians, Creator made a stop in Jamaica on January 14, 1962, and later performed at The Havana Night Club in East Kingston. He quickly adjusted to the Jamaican ska beat and went on to record several songs with the Skatalites band, including "Babylon" (1963), "Don't Stay Out Late," "Man to Man," "Wicked Lady," "I'm Sorry Now," and "We Will Be Lovers." He moved to Montego Bay in 1968 and re-recorded his previous hit song "Babylon" to the reggae beat in 1969 while changing its title to "Kingston Town." Creator returned to Trinidad in 1984 and later suffered a stroke. During this difficult time, he was able to receive a financial boost when the English group UB40 sought permission to record his composition, Kingston Town, which became a big hit for the group and resulted in enormous royalties for Creator. Creator returned to Jamaica in 1990, built a home in Montego Bay, and later moved to Golden Grove, Hanover. His other songs include:
  • Evening News; Ma And Pa; Welcome Princess Margaret; Freedom Song; Golden Love; Rascal Boy; Little Princess; and Precious Time
