REAL NAME: Emrold Anthony Phillip

CAREER:                                   Phillip came to Trinidad (on a Carnival Monday) with his parents when he was five years old and ended up making his home there. He worked as a printer, electrician, and mechanic before settling down for a while as an apprentice tailor. He later would go on to work at Bottler's Limited, bottlers of soft drinks such as Ju-C and Pepsi-Cola, on Long Circular Road in St. James. His love for singing calypso grew and made his first appearance at the Big Bamboo Tent on Park Street in Port of Spain in the early 1960s. In 1979, Valentino was recruited by the Repertory Dance Theatre as a solo act in a concert choreographed by Astor Johnson titled 'Poet and Prophet' which was well-attended. His calypsoes include:
