CAREER: Bailey left Trinidad in 1944 to join the Royal Air Force in England, but captained the Trinidad & Tobago track team at the inaugural Central American and Caribbean Games in Columbia in 1946. Left out of the 1948 Trinidad & Tobago Olympic team, Bailey went on to represent Great Britain at the 1948 and 1952 Olympics. From 1951 to 1956, Bailey held the world record in the 100-meters sprint (10.2 seconds on cinders). He moved to British Guiana in 1954, but returned to Trinidad for good in 1963 and coached the Trinidad & Tobago track team that won three medals at the 1964 Olympics. Bailey's career included the following significant accomplishments:
- 1946 Central American and Caribbean Games, Baranquilla, Colombia - 100 meters (3rd); 4 x 100 meters Relay (3rd, 43.50)
- 1948 Olympics, London, England (Represented Great Britain) - 100 meters (6th, 10.6)
- 1952 Olympics, Helsinki, Finland (Represented Great Britain) - 100 meters (3rd, 10.83); 200 meters (4th, 21.14); 4 x 100 meters Relay (4th, 40.6)
