The first Olympic appearance ever by athletes from Trinidad & Tobago was at the XIV Olympiad in London, England, in 1948. Rodney Wilkes became the first T&T Olympic medalist when he won a silver medal in the featherweight weightlifting class. Trinidad-born track star McDonald Bailey represented Great Britain in the 100-meters sprint at the 1948 Olympics.
